In Performance at the Governor's Mansion
A showcase of Kentucky’s best and brightest performers, featuring music, dance, dramatic readings, poetry, and more.
Melvin Goins, Ray Goins, and Windy Mountain

Ray and Melvin Goins, masters of traditional bluegrass music who play banjo and guitar, respectively, have performed on the Grand Ole Opry and have taken home numerous awards during their 50-plus-year career. The two were members of the legendary Lonesome Pine Fiddlers. Melvin would later play with Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys before joining his brother Ray in creating their own Goins Brothers band.

The only bluegrass player ever to appear on the cover of Smithsonian magazine, Melvin Goins is known nearly as well for his down-home humor as he is for his influential playing style. Ray retired in 1997, but joined Melvin and his current group, Windy Mountain, for their appearance on In Performance.

Bluegrass Royalty
Celebrates Kentucky’s indigenous music with performances by bluegrass legends the Goins Brothers and Windy Mountain, J.D. Crowe and the New South, and Sam Bush with his band. (#401)
