Jonell Mosser has made a name for herself as a backup singer to artists all over the world—from Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, and Wynonna to Joe Ely, Waylon Jennings, and Keb’ Mo’. Her appearance as a headliner on In Performance showcases her versatility as a singer, which can also be heard on her recent CDs, So Like Joy and Enough Rope.
A Kentucky native who moved to Nashville in the 1980s, Jonell has developed a well-earned reputation as a backing vocalist. That experience has worked to her advantage as a solo artist, too—she has developed her voice to adapt to many different kinds of material. She is equally adept as a country singer, blues shouter, rock diva, and traditional folk and gospel singer. She also writes and performs her own music.
