Some 30 years ago, a group of friends became fascinated by jug band music and formed the Juggernaut Jug Band, dedicated to preserving the music and the spirit of the original Louisville jug bands from the early 1900s. Just as New Orleans is the birthplace of Dixieland jazz, Louisville is the home of jug band music: a blend of jazz and blues performed on strings and other standard instruments ... as well as on common household items turned into instruments, such as washtubs and jugs!
The Juggernaut Jug Band has toured throughout the U.S. and Canada and released several CDs. Theyve also appeared several times on KET arts series Jubilee and Mixed Media. Wherever the JJB performs, the audience is invited to have as much fun as the band.
But dont let their special brand of humor fool you. Their exuberant music is the result of skillfully conceived arrangements and unique vocal harmonies. On the other hand, as a Washington Post reviewer once wrote: Dont let virtuosity get in the way of having fun.
