This edition of In Performance at the Governor’s Mansion celebrates the state’s most famous event—the Kentucky Derby—with rousing music and dance by the Derby City’s top performance groups.

The gala event, recorded in the Derby tent at the Governor’s Mansion on April 30, 1997, features the Louisville Orchestra performing a number of classical selections. The Kentucky Opera joins the orchestra in excerpts from Verdi’s La Traviata, and the Louisville Ballet takes the stage to perform excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty, also with the orchestra.

Hosted by former Lexington news anchor Sky Yancey, the program also includes a tour of a ballroom exhibit by Kentucky visual artists.
