Jazz great Lionel Hampton, a native of Louisville, came home to Kentucky for this 1998 edition of In Performance. The legendary vibraphonist and his eight-member band wowed a live audience with a mix of danceable big-band tunes and moving ballads, from jazz standards to Hampton originals.

Hampton, who died in 2002, was known throughout his long career as a champion of young talent. During this performance, two teenage jazz musicians from Louisville—tenor saxophonist Tommy Zinninger and drummer Bobby Falk—join him for a cross-generational jam.
