Stu Pollard, Filmmaker

Stu Pollard, previously featured on KET’s Mixed Media as a filmmaker, visited Louisville Life to preview a different project: the 2006 Idea Festival, held in Louisville October 11-14.

The Idea Festival is a unique event, started in Kentucky, centered on the discussion, celebration, and exploration of cutting-edge ideas and innovation across the spectrum of different fields—science, the arts, design, education, business, technology, etc. More than 50 leading innovators, performers, and thinkers from across the United States and around the globe participated in the 2006 festival.

A writer, director, and producer, Pollard made his feature film debut in 2000 with Nice Guys Sleep Alone. That independently produced romantic comedy about the dating scene in Louisville has been broadcast in more than a dozen countries worldwide and recently completed an 18-month run on HBO. Available nationwide on DVD, the film has enjoyed tremendous popularity at Hollywood Video and, garnering press coverage from USA Today, Time, and Variety. The film aired on WE during the fall of 2006 and will be televised in the U.S. through 2016.

A native of Louisville, Pollard attended Kentucky Country Day and Georgetown University. He spent three years working for New York’s McCann-Erickson advertising agency before moving to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California Film School. These days he splits his time between Louisville and Santa Monica.
