Charles Matthews, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana
Charles “Chuck” Matthews is a retired executive of General Electric (GE) in Louisville, KY, a college lecturer and the winner of the 2007 National Big Brother of the Year award. It is the top volunteer honor that Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) confers.
Mr. Matthews is owner and CEO of Matthews Enterprises LLC (a business consulting firm) & works as a part-time professor at The University of Louisville School of Business & Indiana Wesleyan University. He teaches Operations Management, Total Quality Management, Business and Public Relations. He is also a volunteer working with Kammerer Middle School, the YMCA Black Achiever Program, First Baptist Church of Jeffersontown, and The Urban League.
For over a century, Big Brothers and Big Sisters have helped children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one relationships. It is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana celebrated it's 40th anniversary in 2007.
Chuck Matthews beat out 419 other local BBBS winners from around the country to be named Big Brother of the Year. According to BBBS, the process began when his “Little”, Rico, wrote a paper about Mr. Matthews as a class assignment.
Mr. Matthews and Rico have been matched for five years. Today Mr. Matthews mentors Rico and Rico’s little brother, Shaquille.
Chuck Matthews earned his BS Degree in Engineering from Alabama A & M and a MS Degree in Business Administration & Human Relations from Webster University, St. Louis, MO. He and wife Nancy have two adult children: Tamarra D. Matthews and Charles Harrison.
