Archdiocese of Louisville
2008 marks a bicentennial event for the American Catholic Church.
Two-hundred years ago in 1808, the Catholic Church created Dioceses in New York, Boston, Philadelphia and in Kentucky—the church’s first inland expansion.
Here in Louisville, we know the Catholic Church as the Archdiocese of Louisville – but in 1808, the first diocese was about 40 miles south. Louisville Life details its beginnings and how it ended up in the River City.
