Kentucky Muse - Harry Pickens

For 25 years, pianist, composer, teacher, organizational consultant Harry Pickens has touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of people through his inspiring music and unique recordings, concerts and workshops.

As a jazz pianist, Harry has toured 17 countries throughout Europe, Japan, and the Americas, collaborating with jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, James Moody, Milt Jackson (Modern Jazz Quartet), Don Braden (musical director for the Cosby show), Bob Hurst (bassist for the Tonight Show) and hundreds of others.

Harry currently lives in Louisville where he uses his unique talents and interests to inspire positive social change.

He has taught elementary, middle, high school and college classes. He is a featured artist in the Kentucky Educational Television (KET) Arts Toolkit used by thousands of teachers across Kentucky. Organizations he has served include -- but aren't limited to -- Metro United Way, Center For Non-Profit Excellence, Kentucky Association Of Developmental Education, Kentucky Commerce Cabinet, Kentucky Governorís School For The Arts, Kentucky Music Educators Conference, Kentucky Music Teachers Association, Kentucky Opera Visions Program, and Kentucky Refugee Ministries. He currently presents more than 100 keynote addresses, concert performances, and workshops annually for individuals and organizations in business, government, education, and the arts.

In addition, Mr. Pickens is an accomplished and sought-after conference speaker.

This award-winning artist and humanitarian has been the recipient of multiple awards and honors, including the 2007 Community Arts Award (Arts Council of Louisville), the Center For Conflict Resolution Peacemaker Award (2005), LEO Readerís Choice Best Jazz Band award (2005), and the Plymouth Lighthouse Award (2007). He is also featured in the 2008 Fund For The Arts ĎThe Arts Is A Big Dealí Video.
