Christian, Kelly, & Casey Kaufman, The Kaufman Trio

The Kaufman Trio

Christian, Kelly, and Casey Kaufman form The Kaufman Trio. They all began at the University of Louisville with the violin in the Suzuki program when they were preschoolers. All three sisters tour and play with the Starling Chamber Orchestra in Cincinnati and have had the opportunities to perform in such locations as Australia, Korea, Paris, Vienna, and China next May.

Christian Kaufman, a Freshman at Mercy Academy was named to the 85-member Disney Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra for the second year in a row. She was chosen from more than 8000 young people who tried out for the 10 viola positions available. Her viola's name is "Opportunity" because of the places it has taken her and the opportunities that she has been given. In addition to the viola, Christian also plays the violin, flute, recorder, and piano.

Kelly, who is eighteen, and the oldest of the three sisters, plays the violin, viola, and piano. Kelly was featured in a 1983 Louisville Times story playing the violin at 2 1/2 years old. This past year she won a Michael Eisner music scholarship to study at the Aspen Musical Festival.

Casey, who is eleven, plays the cello and piano and could play an instrument before she could walk. For the past five years, she has won scholarships for the Maple Mount in Owensboro and the Julliard String Trio. Casey will be attending Mercy Academy next year. She is currently an eighth grader at Holy Angels Academy.
