Tim Lake, Musician
Tim Lake, who plays the banjo and guitar, has made his living as a performer, singer-songwriter, composer, and teacher for the last twenty years. His recording efforts are very diverse in scope but fall easily within an Americana or "eclectic folk" category in that they are unique banjo related efforts. Tim is a professional voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, AFIM, ASCAP, the Fold Alliance, and the International Bluegrass Music Association. He has produced eight commercial recordings to date, the first of which was released by Rounder Records entitled "Same Old Roadside Inn" and the latest is entitled "Live in Tokyo, Japan" released on the Padraig Records/Audio Park labels. Mr. Lake holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Kentucky (1991) in which his banjo concerto entitled "An American
Concerto For 5-String Banjo and Orchestra" served as his dissertation. Tim began the Padraig Record label in 1993 as a means to promote "hard-to-pigeonhole" recordings such as his banjo concerto. Mr. Lake's trio, The Little Big Band, plays an eclectic mix of American music presented in an original show on banjo, guitar, bass, fiddle, and mandolin. Their typical presentation will take the listener through original songs with thought provoking lyric content, to Classical music on the banjo, to Jazz, and finally, to Bluegrass and Blues.
