Joel Timothy, Songwriter/Composer

Joel Timothy

Joel Timothy was born in Nebraska and raised in England. In the mid-1960s, he settled in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district and started playing music, inspired by friends and neighbors like Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, and others at a time when they were still very folk-oriented. Joel also lived in Los Angeles for several years, playing all the famous spots from the Troubadour to the Whiskey to the Starwood.

Though big fame has eluded him, Joel has survived well as a musician. Along with songwriting and performing, he keeps busy as a composer for film, TV, theater, and commercials; his clients have included Disney, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, and GE. He also works as a sound designer at Focal Point.

Joel is married to Karen Boone, the renowned Kentucky Derby Festival poster artist. They live in Louisville with their son, Ian.
