Mary Lamb Nehring, Fiber Artist

Mary Lamb Nehring

Fiber as a medium, has always been Mary Lamb Nehring's focus for creative expression. Her formal training, which continues today, commenced decades ago at the University of Missouri. Since then, several techniques within the Fiber Arts have captured Mary's attention, from needlepoint to smocking, and fabric restoration to spinning and weaving. In 1989, quilting intriqued her and her artistic creativity has been almost exclusively in that process ever since. An interest in creating personal designs on fabric that were not commercially available led Mary to start her own business, Colors-To-Dye-For, a hand-dyed fabric company. Now, her work is almost solely focused on original hand crafted fabrics.

In 1998, Mary returned to school to study fiber with Arturo Alonzo Sandoval at the University of Kentucky. Her preference is to create one-of-a-kind, studio art quilts, and to enjoy the tactile experience afforded by working with all types of fabrics. Trying to keep her business successful encourages Mary to search for new techniques and designs that set her fabric apart from others.

Mary's art quilts have been exhibited in the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom.
