Susan Linville & Tad Chadwood, The Necessary Theatre
The Necessary Theatre began in 1991 and beleives "...that strong, valid work is being produced right here in Louisville and that this must continue for the arts to flourish. " Susan Linville is one of the founding members and is the Managing Director of the company.
Susan Linville is a founding member and current Managing Director of The Necessary Theatre. She holds a BA in Theater and English from the University of Louisville. Susan has worked as a director, actor and producer for The Necessary Theatre for the last 10 years. She was last seen onstage as Rose in Howard Korder's "The Lights."
Eight years ago, Tad Chitwood joined the executive staff as the Artistic Director. Tad is a veteran actor, director who has worked with, among many others, the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival and New York's Riverside Shakespeare Company. He was last seen sporting a smarmy attitude in The Necessary Theatre's production of "The Lights."
Since the inception of the company in the Spring of 1991, they have continued to focus on the production of new plays. They have premiered 15 new plays and produced many rarely seen works by such playwrights as Edward Albee, Alan Ayckbourn, Mac Wellman, Beth Henley and David Mamet. Original music has been composed specifically for 5 of their plays by Reid Jahn, Matt Burke and CM Edwards. Additionally, they have produced over 30 comedy spots for WFPL and radio adaptations of their shows "Tricks and Treats" and "Cupid's Quiver" have aired nationally over the Public Radio Satellite System.
This theatre company considers their role "...to be NECESSARY..." to the Louisville area because there is a great wealth of strong, valid, original, and innovative work being produced right here and that their purpose is to see that it continues.
