Alexandra Cunningham, Humana Festival Playwright

Alexandra Cunnigham

Alexandra Cunningham was born in Connecticut and studied abroad for a year at Trinity College in Dublin while in school at Johns Hopkins University. It was there that she became immersed in the theater culture of Dublin. She started studying Theatre and Drama and then upon her return to the States, completed a degree in Writing Seminars.

Alexandra wrote her first play to get into graduate school at Columbia University where she not only received her M.F.A. in playwriting, but was also awarded the Oscar Hammerstein II Center Award for Best Play.

Alexandra is currently a playwright-in-residence at the Juilliard School, where she has taught playwriting in the Juilliard Intersession and received two Lincoln Center LeCompre du Nuoy grants.

"How does the person you were inform the person you become?" That is one of the key questions raised in her play "No. 11 (Blue and White)." You can see this play at Actors Theatre of Louisville as part of the "Humana Festival of New American Plays."
