Jan Darnell, Quilter

Jan Darnell

Jan Darnell started quilting about 12 years ago, following traditional quilt patterns and techniques. But after becoming frustrated with the bulk of the large quilts in her small work space, she began making wall hangings. This “downsizing” opened the door to decorating many areas of the home and office with the warm feelings a quilt always gives.

Jan'sJan enjoys experimenting with fabric color and design patterns to create movement and texture in her work. Sometimes she starts with traditional patterns to develop contemporary designs. Jan machine-quilts or ties the wall hangings to give them depth or continue the movement in the design.

“Thoroughbred Fever” by Jan Darnell was recently exhibited in Kentucky Visions 2001 at the Governor’s Mansion. She also exhibited at The Gallery of the Arts in Mount Sterling for the month of May 2001.
