Misha Feigin, Musician

Misha Feigin

Misha Feigin was born and raised in Moscow and is known as one of Russia’s premier guitarists. When he emigrated to the U.S. in 1990, he left behind an established position in the Moscow arts scene, highlighted by his four albums on the Melodia label, appearances on major radio and television shows, and national and international tours. He had begun recording free-form, improvised music in Moscow in 1986 with Auction’s Dimitry Matkovsky, and he had performed with the Russian pop-folk star Janna Bichevskaya.

Since moving to America, Misha has been active in both the folk and improv scenes. He has been featured on the American Public Radio program Mountain Stage, at the WOMAD World Music Festival in Toronto, and at the Winnipeg International Folk Festival. He has opened for Leo Kottke and shared his stage with Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul, and Mary.

Both Russian and English are heard throughout Misha’s dynamic performances, which incorporate original poetry and spontaneous storytelling. He plays classical and acoustic guitars, balalaika, keyboards, and harmonica, and his music is a blend of various ethnic idioms and musical styles.

Misha’s five U.S. releases are The Only One Road, Only Once, and Dreams, three albums of original folk music in Russian and English on Dreaming People Records, and two releases of improvised music on the Spontaneous Folks label: Spontaneous Folks’ Music and June in Moscow.
