Greg Fleischaker, Glass Artist

Greg Greg Fleischaker was raised in Louisville and lives there now, operating a glass studio called FireFly Glass, but he did some moving around in between. Greg went to school at Centre College in Danville, where he learned the art of glassblowing from nationally renowned artist Stephen Rolfe Powell. He then went on to work at the hot-glass studio of Berni Enterprises in Shepherdsville before setting out on his own. He and his wife, Celia, briefly moved to Bloomington, IN while she pursued an advanced degree in business. It was there that Greg founded FireFly Glass.

Upon their return to Louisville, Greg set up shop in town and continued to grow his business while trying to perfect his technique. In early 1999, Celia was transferred to Southern California, so the family—now including a son, Griffin—moved there for two years. Greg says he generally took it easy in California, enrolling in a few glass classes and practicing. But the Fleischakers also found time to have a daughter, Madison. In January of 2001, Greg, his wife, and now two children moved back home to Kentucky again.

And they may stay put this time. In addition to running his own studio, Greg is now a part of the Louisville Glassworks collaborative headquartered downtown.
