Alice Ann Noel, Mixed-Media Sculptor

Alice Ann Noel Alice Ann Noel is a mixed-media sculptor. She has saved and collected things all of her life, and assembling them into collages was a favorite pastime during her adolescent years. Alice attended Murray State University, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and got her master’s at Western Kentucky University.

Though she has worked in a variety of media, Alice has always come back to sculpture as her most comfortable form of expression because she appreciates those things that can be touched. She believes that tactile qualities arouse our curiosity and that the surface of a substance or an art piece tells us a lot about what the artist intends.

Alice’s life has seen a myriad of contradictions in many areas, and for this reason she finds the juxtaposition of objects in mixed-media sculptures especially satisfying. This mode of work has been her format for the past 10 years of studio work. Domestic violence, female roles in the home, and personal experiences have been themes in her work.
