Visual artist Dane Waters works in encaustic mixed media. The encaustic painting technique combines color pigment with hot wax and resin. This mixture is applied in its semi-liquid form and can then be manipulated with a heating device.
Danes paintings/installations are generally rather large4' X 8' or larger. Past themes have included globalization and music; her current work explores the concept of genomes. She strives to combine the conceptual with the tactile and with aesthetics. The general look of the wax surface varies from very textured to very smooth, and the works range from greatly colorful to monotone or even minimalist and monochromatic.
Based in Louisville, Dane is also the assistant education director with the Kentucky Art and Craft Foundation, headquartered downtown.
