Butch Rice, Musician

Butch Rice

Singer/songwriter Butch Rice is no stranger to the music scene in his hometown of Louisville. He has played in bands such as About Us and Tuesday Sun and performed a solo act with nothing more than a stage and his guitar.

Butch’s love for music began early on, thanks in part to his family full of gospel musicians. But he didn’t begin his own musical endeavors until the early ’90s. He started his career by learning to play the guitar with the help of Danny Flanigan. After about a year of lessons, Butch started writing his own songs, playing at open-stage nights, and eventually playing in different bands around the area. He recorded his first album, Acoustic Pop, in August 1999. He was working on a follow-up CD at the time of his Mixed Media visit in 2003.
