A Celebration of Glass (Part 1)

A Celebration of Glass

Several arts organizations around Louisville collaborated to create the 2003 exhibition A Celebration of Glass, a wide-ranging look at contemporary glass art from around the world showcased simultaneously at several different venues: the Speed Art Museum, the Louisville Visual Art Association, the Kentucky Museum of Arts + Design, and Glassworks.

Mixed Media’s peek at the exhibition is divided into two parts, with the first focusing on the Speed Art Museum and the Kentucky Museum of Arts + Design.

The Speed’s offering, The Light Within: Glass Sculpture from Louisville Collections, features a range of magnificent glass sculptures created by renowned artists, all from the collections of Louisvillians. Included are works by Bertil Vallien, Silvia Levenson, and the husband-and-wife team of Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtova.

At the Kentucky Museum of Arts + Design, The Glass Vessel: An International Invitational spotlights a wide variety of glasswork produced by more than 50 artists from around the world, including Lino Tagliapietra, Stephen Rolfe Powell, and Dante Marioni.
