Crystal Wilkinson, Writer

Crystal Wilkinson Crystal Wilkinson is the author of two books of short stories, Blackberries, Blackberries and Water Street. The second, published in 2002, was nominated for the Orange Award, one of the most prestigious awards for fiction given in Great Britain. She also has written numerous works of poetry and is a member of the Affrilacian Poets, a Lexington-based organization of minority Southern writers. Crystal was featured with that group in the video documentary Coal Black Voices. While teaching at Eastern Kentucky University as a part of its distinguished visiting writers program, Crystal also completed her MFA in writing from Spalding University in Louisville.

Having grown up on Indian Creek in Casey County, Crystal proudly considers herself “country,” and her writing often draws on the people and settings of that environment. She is at work on her first novel, tentatively titled Opulence.

Both of Crystal’s short-story collections have been featured selections on bookclub@ket.
