Jill Plaisted, Artist/Educator
Jill Plaisted earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Kentucky, majoring in painting and printmaking. She originally worked solely in watercolor and has taken her paints back to her native England many times to record the spectacular scenery. More recently, Jill has come to love the rich textural effects achieved in oil painting. She also creates monotype prints, combining water media and oil-based inks in rich monotype transfers. Jill’s subject matter is varied but is primarily influenced by the surrounding landscape. She constantly seeks to portray her response to something that has profoundly influenced or inspired her, and it is that feeling that she tries to capture on paper or canvas. Many of Jill’s smaller works are plein air paintings and were completed on location in England, Kentucky, or Indiana. She says these paintings are the most evocative of her works, with each one transporting her back to the particular time when she worked on it.
