Russell Dawson, Stonemason
![]() Russell Dawson, a stonemason from Murray, uses sandstone to create fireplaces, patios, walls, benches, and custom homes. Some of his works take years to accomplish. He chooses stones of different thicknesses, then intricately shapes and positions each rock to create a functional work of art. Dawson found his calling in the early 1970s when he walked by a bank in Buffalo, Wyoming and admired the stonework. He already had a background in art, but the bank building inspired him to teach himself the trade of stonemasonry. Today he is well-known and recognized for his work far beyond the Western Kentucky hills he calls home.
