Laquita Mitchell, Soprano
![]() A native of New York City, lyric soprano Laquita Mitchell is a 2004 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Grand Prize Winner. She also brought home first prize from the Wiener Kammer Operas 2003 Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition, becoming the first American to win that competition in more than 20 years. She has performed as a member of the Houston Grand Opera and has sung with the Boston Symphony Orchestra as the soprano soloist in Wynton Marsalis work All Rise, under the direction of Kurt Masur. As an artist in the Gheens Great Expectations project at the Kentucky Center, Laquita came to Louisville to mentor, inspire, and perform for young singers in the community.
