Chip welcomes Amelia Blossom Pegram to the studio this week. A poet, performer, and teacher, Amelia reads several poems from her collection Echoes Across a Thousand Hills accompanied by drummer Earbie Johnson. In an interview segment, the two also talk about their artistic collaboration.
The other in-studio guest for the day is Heather OMara of the Louisville Visual Art Association, who introduces a video look back at a recent LVAA event, Artcentric at Artopia. During Artcentric, seven local artistsincluding past Mixed Media guests Jacque Parsley, Shayne Hull, Mike Ratterman, and Chuck Swansonhad to create pieces of work using materials that many of us would simply throw away. Heather shows and discusses all seven pieces and talks about the community education classes held at Artopia.
The final two segments for this program also feature out-of-studio visits. In Lexingtons Woodland Park, our cameras captured some of the action from the 2001 edition of Poetry in the Park: A Celebration of Kentucky Writers. In addition to readings, Poetry in the Park features musical performances by several bands.
Finally, we focus once again on the journey from raw material to finished product, this time with a visit to Louisville Stoneware that follows a batch of clay from potters wheel to display shelf.
