This edition of Mixed Media offers some rousing music as we look at—and listen to—the Great Kentucky Gospel Shout Out. This annual celebration of Kentucky gospel features choirs and performers from around the state, with the winners of a series of regional showcases moving on to the finale in Louisville.

The 2003 Gospel Shout Out was also a celebration of the 20th anniversary of The Kentucky Center, which sponsors the gospel competition. Meanwhile, the center was also getting ready for a new season of Broadway in Louisville, leading off with the most elaborate production ever staged at the Kentucky Center, Disney’s The Lion King. Leslie Broecker stops by to preview that show and other 2003/04 offerings.

More music for this program is supplied by the Middle Men, a Louisville band that writes original songs on contemporary subjects and then plays them in classic, straight-ahead rock ’n’ roll style.
