Held each winter at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky Crafted: The Market features crafts, two-dimensional visual arts, food products, books, and a range of musical and cultural presentations. Kentucky Crafted is an initiative of the Craft Marketing Program, a state agency that is part of the Kentucky Arts Council.
On our visit to the 2004 edition, Mel talks with Fran Redmon, program director of Kentucky Crafted; Nancy Atcher, who works in product development for retailers and producers; Vallorie Henderson, who handles national and international marketing; and Heather Lyons, who directs the individual artist program for the KAC. We also look back at the early years of the market in a segment by Kentucky filmmaker Michael Breeding.
Artists featured in this on-location edition of Mixed Media include Larry Miller and Larry Robbe Rowe of Millers Metal Works in Louisville; potter Gregory Seigel of Owenton; Sharon Lombardo of Annas Sweet EsSCENTials, an Owenton maker of specialty soaps who has been featured on the DIY network; sculptor William Duffy of Louisville; and Kim Stechschulte, a master woodworker with Splinter Works in Versailles.
