First up this week is the second of three segments on the Frazier Historical Arms Museum, which is scheduled to open May 22 in its state-of-the-art facility in downtown Louisville. The museums collection of arms, armor, and related historical artifacts spans 1,000 years and includes Daniel Boones family Bible, President Theodore Roosevelts Big Stick, Geronimos bow, and George Armstrong Custers Colt pistols. Through its collaboration with Britains Royal Armouries, the museum will also display the arms and armor of kings and knights, including items that once belonged to Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.
Our next visit is to Simply Oaxaca, a Lexington shop specializing in hand-crafted art and gifts from Mexico. Simply Oaxaca is owned by Jacobo and Janice Aragon, who also conduct seminars, workshops, and exhibits designed to bring the art and culture of their native land to the Bluegrass.
Throughout the program, Louisville-based all-female band the Blue Umbrellas performs songs from Metamorphose, the bands first full-length CD. The brellasguitarists Kelly Shouse and Gloria Marshall, drummer Rhonda Baker, and bass player Stephanie Wolzhave impressed audiences with an eclectic rock sound, personal lyrics, and original cover interpretations.
