Beattyvilles Norma and Charles Perdue create custom toys, toy chests, and childrens furniture. Our profile of the couple spotlights how the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program helped them turn this retirement hobby into a business, Aardvark Woodworks. The KCMP provides training, networking, and marketing to local artisans and has featured Aardvark at the New York International Gift Fair, a major showcase attended by catalog and store buyers from around the world.
Next, meet the Squallis Puppeteers, a group of innovative Louisvillians dedicated to putting a distinctly new twist on an old form of entertainment. With performance pieces that incorporate fiber arts, original music, and politics, puppeteers Nora and Carrie Christensen and Jess Myers aim to transport [the] audience to an imaginary world where disbelief is suspended and new realities are created.
Music for this edition of Mixed Media comes from Louisvilles Bodeco, whose style is a fusion of zydeco, rock, jump blues, and country-rock. Members include Ricky Feather on guitar and vocals, Gary Stillwell on keyboard and percussion, Gene Wickliffe on drums, and Jimmy Brown on bass. The band has recorded three albums: Bone, Hair and Hide (1992); Callin All Dogs (1995); and Crazy Wild, released in the fall of 2003.
