On this edition of Mixed Media, Mel sits down with Marc Masterson, artistic director of Actors Theatre of Louisville, to discuss the Humana Festival of New American Plays. The festival, which marked its 29th year in 2004, draws producers, journalists, critics, playwrights, and theater lovers from around the world for a marathon of new works. When not overseeing that signature event, Masterson is busy with new projects: He created ATLs first education department and doubled the number of performances for young audiences in his first four years.
Next, meet sculptor Garry Bibbs, a Louisville native who now teaches and directs the graduate program in sculpture at the University of Kentucky. Garry discusses his role as a mentor as well as his own artistic influences and inspirations. Well show you several of his metal sculptures during this profile.
Throughout the program, Junkyard Jane performs songs from its CD Ductape & Sagebrush. The band, which plays a brand of roots music it calls swampabilly, relocated from Tacoma, WA to Louisville to be more centrally located when booking tours. Junkyard Janes members are Billy Stoops on guitar and vocals; Leanne Trevalyan on vocals, percussion, acoustic guitar, and washboard; Alex Featherstone on bass; and Tom Sunderland on drums.
