We begin this programand kick off Mixed Medias seventh seasonin Murray, where stonemason Russell Dawson creates fireplaces, patios, walls, benches, and custom homes with fieldstone. Dawson found his calling in the early 1970s when he walked by a bank building in Wyoming and admired the stonework.
While out west, we also visit Owensboros RiverPark Center, which served as the staging ground for an international tour of 42nd Street in the summer of 2004. The company was preparing to take the show to Japan, and the production helped boost local tourism as well as economic development. Nearly 100 actors, dancers, crew members, and employees of the theatrical company were in town for four dress rehearsals and two performances, and at least 50 local people were hired to sew and assemble costumes.
Throughout the program, Louisville band the Big Diggity, a self-described new-soul collective, performs songs from its CD Ride. The band members are lead vocalist Lamont Conner, Mauriece Hamilton on saxophone, rap lyricist Mr. Theo, brothers Sherman (bass) and Nathan (guitar) Buschemeyer, Woody on keyboard, Jacob Englert on percussion, and Brian Lambert on drums.
