Ceramist Wayne Ferguson, our first guest on this edition of Mixed Media, has recently gained new insight into his life and art through what some would call a tragedy: The Louisville artist was in a car accident that left him blind in one eye. But Wayne has accepted this new challenge and is forging on with his creative work, which often is humorous or makes a social statement.
Next, we meet Jeral Tidwell, a multimedia artist who started out airbrushing T-shirts and is now a graphic artist and illustrator. Jeral has designed everything from hot sauce labels to skateboard decks in his unique, heavily detailed style. His works have been in galleries from New York to Los Angeles, and he has designed posters for bands and musicians like Kid Rock, Dick Dale, Widespread Panic, the Foo Fighters, and Sheryl Crow.
The mesmerizing and exotic music for this week comes from the gu zheng, a traditional Chinese table harp played by Binian Tao. She is joined by traditional Chinese dancer Leda Wu. Binian began her career as an artist in the Chinese opera, studied folk music in Beijing, and has toured all over Southeast Asia performing traditional and pop music. Leda, who has been performing and directing Chinese dance for six years, also teaches it to families and children in the Louisville area.
