Artist Victor Sweatt captures thought-provoking, emotional moments in time, dramatically portraying human interactions and surroundings while exploring the tremendous versatility of pastel, watercolor, and charcoal. On this edition of Mixed Media, the realist artist explains how he is inspired by ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. I want to create art that is not only beautiful, but insightful, educational, and inspiring as well, he says.
Louisville band fattlab is also on hand to perform its unique combination of jazz, funk, and rock. Formerly known as Splatch, fattlab strives to take its art to the next level with more improvisation, more groove, and more mixing of genres. Typical performances feature compositions by fattlab members plus renditions of jazz and rock classics.
Getting out of the studio, we visit the Mellwood Arts & Entertainment Center, a former meatpacking complex thats being converted into artists studios, galleries, rehearsal spaces, a café, and meeting rooms. The five-year plan for development of the massive complex, which will be the new home of the Bunbury Theatre, also includes retail and office space and a lawn for concerts.
