The Kentucky Centers Governors School for the Arts provides a unique opportunity for high school students who are gifted in the arts. Executive Director Heather Weston Bell visits this edition of Mixed Media to explain the goals of the GSA, a three-week summer residential program for students of dance, acting, instrumental and vocal music, creative writing, architecture, and visual arts.
Heather also introduces performances by several recent GSA graduates: jazz combo the Drew Miller Trio, dancer Lori Crosthwait, and writer Danielle Quintos.
On the road, we visit the studio of visual artist Bob Morgan, who was born in Taylor County and now lives and works in Lexington. His found-object sculptures draw on his Catholic upbringing as well as his experience in the counterculture of the 1960s and 70s to tell stories of birth, death, and rebirth. As proprietor of Gallerie Soleil, Bob strives to use art to reach out to troubled young people.
