This week, Mixed Media begins a series exploring The Future of Classical Music with two segments featuring 17-year-old piano prodigy Euntaek Kim. As part of the Kentucky Centers Gheens Great Expectations Project, which brings young classical musicians from around the globe together with their peers in the Louisville area, Kim performs Schuberts Trout Quintet with several members of the Louisville Youth Orchestra. And in a sneak preview of a KET production coming this fall, Kim joins the Louisville Youth Choir, the New Albany High School A Cappella Singers, and the Louisville Youth Orchestra, conducted by Robert Franz, for a sensational performance of Beethovens Choral Fantasy.
Kim, the youngest student in his department at the famed Juilliard School, has already received multiple honors and is studying with piano great Jerome Lowenthal.
In between the classical performances, Artistic Director Beth Kirchner leads us on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Woodford County Theatrical Arts Association. This all-volunteer community theater stages at least four productions each season and offers ongoing arts education opportunities at its home in Versailles Falling Springs Arts and Recreation Center.
