sand sculpture by Damon Farmer

To start this edition, filmmaker Elliot Greenebaum shows a little of Assisted Living, a blend of fiction and real life that he wrote, produced, and directed. The film, Elliot’s debut, also offered a unique opportunity to the residents of the Masonic Homes of Kentucky assisted living facility in Louisville. The film was shot at the nursing home using actual residents, along with a few actors, and has won numerous awards for its unique insight into and dignified presentation of assisted living. Elliot, a Louisville native, now lives in New York.

Next, Woodford County artist Damon Farmer shows the art of sand sculpture. He’s been at it for nearly 30 years, and his intricate creations have won many national and international awards. He has created everything from nearly life-size trains to scenes from The Wizard of Oz, with some finished sculptures standing nearly nine feet tall. Damon recently returned from Italy, where he helped to create the Presepe di Sabbia (Nativity of Sand) for the Christmas season.

The musical guest for the week is jazz fusion combo PrimeForm, from Lexington. Its music combines the classic fusion energy of groups like Weather Report and the Mahavishnu Orchestra with a modern, eclectic approach involving original music, electronics, and improvisation.
