The first guest for this edition of Mixed Media is Brenda Wirth, a Louisville visual artist with more than 15 years experience in art education and community art, including participation in the Kentucky Arts Councils artist-in-residency program. She paints dramatic landscapes with a flourish of brilliant colors and bold contrasts, attempting to defy the boundaries of the two-dimensional canvas. Her artwork is exhibited at Zephyr Gallery in Louisville and held in collections nationally.
Next, we visit Robert William Head, a painter living in the woodlands of Western Kentucky. Bob has traveled throughout Africa, Asia, Mexico, and Canada and spent several years painting in Alaskas Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. A native of Springfield, IL, he taught painting and drawing at Murray State University, where he served as chair of the Department of Art for 11 years and is now professor emeritus.
Our first musical guest is Louisville band Serpent Wisdom, which shares a local take on world-beat music that was once described as shamanic world funk. In a performance from our archives, youll also hear from late blues artist Mary Ann Fisher, a former Ray Charles Raelette backup singer.
