Striking visuals fill this edition of Mixed Media, beginning with the work of textile artist Jan Darnell. Avoiding the frustrations of working with larger, more cumbersome quilts, Jan discusses how she uses her skills to create elaborate wall hangings.
Next up is Jefferson County artist Barbara Stallard. A poet who has recently taken up painting and printmaking, she incorporates various materials in her compositions.
Next, artist Shoto Sato demonstrates the art of Kabuki stage makeup. This traditional Japanese style treats the actors face like a canvas. Facial features are embellished to indicate a characters personality, age, and significance.
Finally, Louisville artist Shayne Hull discusses how his initial interest in art at an early age developed into the distinct style and technique he now employs to create works of vivid color and personality.
In between all the visual treats, we have a little something for your ears, too. Louisvilles Bodeco performs its unique fusion of zydeco, rock, jump blues, and country music. And veteran singer/songwriter Tim Krekel, also from Louisville, entertains with his country- and blues-tinged tunes.
