Michael Johnathon

We begin this edition with a profile of Michael Johnathon, a folksinger and radio broadcaster whose WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour features Americana artists performing for a live audience at the Kentucky Theatre in Lexington. Through the weekly syndicated broadcast, web streaming, and a recently added podcasting system, WoodSongs has attracted attention from a worldwide audience. Mixed Media caught up with Michael at the 2006 Kentucky Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where he was presented with the Stephen Foster Award for promoting Kentucky through the Woodsongs program.

Switching to a different sort of music entirely, we sample the urban stylings of Lexington hip-hop artist C-Rowdy, a.k.a. Corey Owsley. The segment features performance footage and a discussion with C-Rowdy about his pursuit of a career in rap music, his influences, and his inspirations.

Rounding out this all-music program are selections from the WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour and an in-studio performance from bluegrass band Kentucky Wild Horse.
