Agencies help students meet college costs KHEAA Kentuckians seeking student financial aid should check out the offerings of the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) and The Student Loan PeopleSM. The KHEAA administers Kentucky’s major state student financial aid programs, including need-based grants and the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES), and guarantees Federal Family Education Loans to help students pay higher education expenses. Most students need a loan to help pay for college, and they will find no lower cost to obtain a federal Stafford Loan than through The Student Loan People, the state’s only public, nonprofit student loan provider. Enter lender #826688 on the application to receive a BestStart Stafford Loan with a 0% origination fee, 0% insurance fee, and interest rate reductions for timely and automatic payments. In addition, The Student Loan People’s Best in Class, Best in Care, and Best in Law programs provide interest and loan forgiveness for teachers, nurses, and public service attorneys. KHEAA and The Student Loan People also provide free printed and online college planning and financial aid publications to help Kentuckians learn how to plan and pay for higher education. Two that are especially helpful are “Adults Returning to School,” a complete guide to college for nontraditional students, and “Affording Higher Education,” a reference booking listing more than 3,600 sources of college financial aid available to Kentucky students.
