Teresa Isaac, Lexington mayor

Teresa Isaac was elected mayor of Lexington in 2002 but lost her bid for re-election in November 2006 to Jim Newberry. She is a second-generation Arab American whose father was the son of Lebanese immigrants and mayor of Cumberland in Harlan County. Before serving as mayor, she practiced civil rights law and was a member of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council. Isaac has expressed interest in running for statewide office or Congress.
