Anne Sleet, Perryville mayor

Anne Sleet became in 2006 the first African American to be elected mayor in Boyle County and one of only a few black women to reach that office anywhere in Kentucky. Sleet grew up in Lincoln County but has lived in Perryville ever since she married Raymond Sleet. Her husband’s family roots can be traced back to slavery days and the once thriving black community of Sleettown, near the Perryville Civil War battlefield.
