Robyn Stuart of Frankfort, who fashioned a family holiday recipe into a successful business, D B Bourbon Candy, shares the story behind her signature bourbon balls. Stuart explains how she expanded one simple recipe into a booming home business with more than 60 varieties of bourbon and liqueur candies. Although it is currently a single-person operation, D B Bourbon Candy provides thousands of bourbon balls for some of Kentucky’s most exclusive and elaborate Derby parties. Stuart explains how she handles the demand.

Brown’s Bakery in Lexington, which is operated by husband-and-wife team James and Bridget Brown since 2006, serves up 21 varieties of cupcakes, mini-pies, and sculpted cakes, all made from scratch. The Browns also bake breakfast pastries, donuts, breads, and cookies daily.
