Patricia Smith, performance poet (#604)

Patricia Smith, a Chicago native, is the author of five acclaimed poetry volumes. The latest, Blood Dazzler, which chronicles the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, was a finalist for the 2008 National Book Award. Smith is also the author of Africans in America, a companion volume to the PBS documentary. In 2006 she was inducted into the National Literary Hall of Fame for Writers of African Descent.
