Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center (#623)
The Lyric Theatre, a cultural anchor in Lexington's black community in the 1950s, closed in 1963. It reopened in fall 2010. Freda Meriwether, chairwoman of the Lyric board, and Joan Brannon, a filmmaker and Lyric program director, talk about what the theater's renaissance means for the black community, the work to restore the building, and what kinds of programs and community events will be held there.
