Single Parenting (#641)
University of Kentucky researcher Katrina Taylor Akande is conducting a study about the parenting experiences of black fathers who don't live with their children, examining whether there is any truth to the idea that divorced or unwed fathers are deadbeat parents. Akande is a doctoral candidate in UK's Department of Family Studies.
Hope Blackmon is a radio producer and host of the Louisville talk show Single Mothers, Let's Talk. It airs on WLOU 1350 AM at 9 a.m. on Saturdays.
Shawn Gardner is president of a Louisville-based parenting group called 2NOT1, Fatherhood and Families, Inc., which hopes to educate low-income families about the role of fatherhood and create a pool of positive male role models to mentor youth and fathers.
