Michelle Tooley (#817)
A professor at Berea College since 2003, Michelle Tooley's latest research focuses on the role of Christian religious communities in peacemaking.
A long-time activist for economic justice, she has served on the national boards for Witness for Peace and Bread for the World. She also served as Minister to the Homeless at Jeff Street Baptist Community in Louisville. She did her dissertation research on women's lives in Guatemala during the nation's 36-year civil war.
A Texas native, she earned her bachelor's degree in Spanish education from Northwestern University, her master's degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and her doctorate from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
