Procedural questions require that the student identify the process for solving a problem as shown below:
Andre needs to label individual cartons for shipment. If he plans on shipping 12 boxes and each box holds 10 cartons, how many labels does Andre need to make for the shipment?
(1) 10
(2) 12
(3) 22
(4) 120
(5) 1200
Answer: (4) 120
A student would need to understand that this solution requires multiplying 12 x 10.
Procedural questions require students to:
- Identify and use the correct procedure to complete basic one-step problems.
- Understand the order of operations.
- Read and interpret graphs, charts, and tables.
- Use estimation or mental math skills.
- Understand place value and be able to round numbers correctly.
